I have decided to start a blog. This is not only a blog, but an experiment of sorts. I am curious to know the real power of social media. Barrack Obama managed to raise an empire of people to elect him to office through social media. Do we have the power to impact our legislation and our congress using the same means? This is what I would like to see. By starting a dialogue with friends and neighbors regarding our current situation here the U.S. I hope to kindle some fires that may lead at least to our local congress people requesting change.
However, the change you believe in may not be the change I believe in. So I’ll shall commence the first blog and tell you what I believe. I hope you will write back and tell me what you believe.
I believe in democracy in a government ruled for the people by the people.
I believe in a healthy debate by people with differing views.
I believe that compassion for ALL people should guide our choices.
I believe that sometimes we should be compassionately outraged at injustice.
I believe that if we must pay taxes to our government then the government has a social responsibility to all of it’s citizens to utilize those funds in way that will induce social justice so that all citizens may have the opportunity life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness and not war.
I believe that the path towards the end of poverty is paved with peace.
I believe that the wealthy should not receive tax breaks as this deposits them in the position of the greatest welfare recipients in the nation. The money they withhold from the nation could be used towards social programs and lowering the deficit.
I believe in justice for all, not just a few.
